Tips for a Safe Boating Season
Summer is a very busy time at the lake, especially on the water. A few simple tips will make your boating adventure fun and safe.
Before you leave your dock, inspect your boat for all required safety equipment including life preservers, a throw cushion, paddle, and an up-to-date fire extinguisher. Run your boat through a pre-operational inspection, ensuring that your vessel and all accessories including navigation lights, blower, bilge pump, and horn are operating properly.
While on the lake, observe the rules of the road for guidance. Always steer to the right of any oncoming boats and pass to the left of any slower vessel running your course. At times, areas of the lake can get congested; drive responsibly, maintain your direction, and watch out for other vessels headed your way.
Be safe and have a great boating season!
